This page explains what a Groundwork consultation is — and, just as importantly, what it isn't. Please read this alongside our Terms of Service before booking a session.
The Role of Groundwork
Groundwork is a booking platform that connects people with independent, licensed engineering professionals for paid consultation sessions. Groundwork itself is not an engineering firm and does not itself provide engineering, design, or construction services.
The professional you speak with is independently responsible for the advice they give. Groundwork's role is limited to facilitating the booking, scheduling, and payment for your session.
What a Consultation Includes
A standard Groundwork session is a short advisory conversation with a licensed construction or engineering professional. It typically includes:
- General professional guidance based on what you share during the session
- Answers to the specific questions you prepare in advance
- High-level direction on planning, bidding, permits, or quality control, depending on your session
- A one-page written summary after the call
What a Consultation Does Not Include
Unless specifically agreed and booked as a separate engagement, a Groundwork consultation does not include:
- Full engineering design or detailed drawings
- Signed and sealed plans or documents
- A formal site inspection or site visit
- Detailed engineering calculations
- Construction supervision or site monitoring
- Preparation, filing, or approval of permits
- Acting as the engineer-of-record for your project
- Any guarantee of project outcomes, cost savings, or approval by any third party or government authority
Independent Professional Judgment
The guidance you receive is based entirely on the information you provide during your session. Its usefulness depends on the accuracy and completeness of that information. The professional you speak with exercises independent judgment and is not directed or supervised by Groundwork in giving that advice.
No Guarantee of Results
A consultation is advisory in nature. It does not guarantee that your project will succeed, stay within budget, avoid delays, or be approved by any contractor, lender, or government authority.
Separate Engagements
Formal reviews of drawings or quotations, site inspections, signed and sealed engineering documents, construction supervision, and other full engineering engagements are available only as separately scoped and agreed arrangements — not as part of a standard consultation. Ask during your session if you need one of these services.
